grettings from Boyne City USA

Small-town America is alive and well in the delightful Up-North community of Boyne City, Michigan. Situated on beautiful Lake Charlevoix, Boyne City is home to rolling hills and spectacular vistas, 11 glorious miles of lake frontage, a quaint and friendly downtown, a boardwalk along the Boyne River, and more public parks per capita than you can shake a stick at. Add in direct access to Lake Michigan, world-class skiing, golf, boating, hunting and fishing, and you’ll soon discover what “quality of life” is really all about!

People take a friendly, laid-back approach to life up here, and they’re not opposed to celebrating each season with a festival or two.  A few long-time favorites include:

National Morel Mushroom Festival
The second week in May for the past 49 years, Boyne City residents have lauded the elusive—yet delicious—morel mushroom with a 3-day festival.  Mushroom hunters scour the woods, and the local restaurants cook up mouth-watering morel specials!  Join us for our 50th annual celebration May 13-16, 2010.

Fourth of July Festival
America’s independence is celebrated in old-fashioned style each July 4th.  Of course there’s the traditional parade, but don’t forget the children’s bike decorating contest, raft race, duck race, soap box derby, 10-K race, Rotary Club barbeque, and live music! A full day of good clean fun is topped of by a top-notch fireworks display over Lake Charlevoix at dusk.

Evenings at the Gazebo
Old City Park is the place to be each Wednesday evening in the summer. From 6:30-8 you can sit back and enjoy a cornucopia of concerts – from country and jazz to big bands and orchestral music – there’s something for every musical taste!  Weekly at the corner of Pine and River streets.

Harvest Festival
October is the time to take in the vibrant autumn hues of Northern Michigan – along with a little bit of local brew from Shorts Brewery – and the residents of Boyne City do it up right with their annual Harvest Festival. Organized by the local Chamber and the Boyne City Main Street business owners, this fest includes some 30 arts and crafts vendors, music, children’s games, face painting, folk art demonstrations, hayrides and a farm market.  Mark your calendar for the first weekend of October.
